About the position

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join the Financial Accounting Services (FAS) team at Oklahoma City University who has an attention to detail, a strong communicator, excellent work-ethic, is well-organized, can work both independently and on a team, and has the ability to adapt to new situations. The incumbent in this position will spend the majority of working time on campus, however, there may be opportunities to work remotely on occasion after a reasonable period to demonstrate successful job performance to support work-life balance flexibility. Remote work days are approved by department leadership on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Providing accounting services as part of OCU's overall financial operations and function including general ledger accounting, receivables and cash receipts processing, bank account monitoring, gift and pledge transaction processing and tracking.
  • Classifying transactions, account reconciliations, budget and fund transfers, journal voucher processing and posting.
  • General data entry and maintenance in the primary ERP and Accounting database (i.e. Banner).
  • Account analysis and research, as well as other financial accounting activities.
  • Participating in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes with the rest of the FAS team.
  • Completing other ad hoc tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor and Department management.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field is required at minimum.
  • Minimum of 2 years' accounting or bookkeeping experience demonstrating a strong competency in the basics of these fields and administrative work.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the basic principles of accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and adequate communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office products like Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Higher Education or Non-Profit industries.
  • Working knowledge of internal control policies and maintaining related process and procedure documentation.
