About the position
The Staff Accountant position at Horizons for Homeless Children involves managing financial transactions and ensuring accurate data entry into accounting software. The role supports the CFO with budget analysis and requires a strong understanding of accounts payable and receivable processes. This position is primarily onsite with some flexibility for remote work.
Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy in expense account coding, authorization, and timely payment to suppliers.
- Maintain an organized accounting filing system within NetSuite for easy retrieval of documents.
- Reconcile vendor accounts regularly by obtaining and reviewing statements, resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Prepare month-end accrual entries when required.
- Prepare 1099-Misc forms at the end of the calendar year.
- Record all cash receipts accurately.
- Generate reports from the public funds system, verifying their accuracy before submission of public funds billing.
- Upload Raiser's Edge data into NetSuite to record cash donations and pledges.
- Assist with year-end reporting and audit preparations related to government contracts.
- Attend mandatory and beneficial trainings as required.
- Undertake additional projects or duties as necessary to support departmental needs.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management
- Familiarity with General Ledger accounting procedures
- Experience in creating and reviewing Journal Entries
- Demonstrated ability in handling Month End Close activities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
