About the position

The Sr. Trial Attorney position at Nationwide's Legal team involves delivering top-quality legal services in a work-from-home environment. This role is focused on representing clients in civil litigation, particularly in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation, with a strong emphasis on case management and trial advocacy. The attorney will handle cases from pre-suit through trial, ensuring timely communication and effective collaboration with clients and claims partners.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate trial advocacy skills as lead counsel or as part of a team.
  • Manage cases efficiently and proactively according to Nationwide Trial Division standards.
  • Utilize technology effectively for case management.
  • Stay updated on changes in law and procedural requirements.
  • Provide sound legal opinions on case valuations and communicate them promptly to clients.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with key associates and claims partners.
  • Communicate effectively to meet client and internal expectations.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and staff, providing guidance and training.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in law and technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Workers Compensation and/or subrogation.
  • Proficiency in case management software and Microsoft products.
