About the position

Visa Technology & Operations LLC, a Visa Inc. company, needs a Sr. System Engineer (multiple openings) in Ashburn, VA to support critical applications and ensure the stability of services by performing dedicated maintenance activities. You engage in automation activities, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and remediation. The role involves providing Infrastructure Operations and Production Support of container technologies and orchestration platforms, responsible for Docker/Kubernetes deployment, configuration, scaling, and management of containerized applications. You will harden and secure the Kubernetes cluster with monitoring and auditing dashboards, explain technical concepts and provide guidance to staff, and convert manual and maintenance functions into fully orchestrated automation. The position requires operating in complex, highly secure, and highly available operations environments and interacting with the technology domain experts required to maintain those environments. You will coach other members of the support team, sharing technical and customer knowledge in a helpful and timely fashion, and partner with the Platform, Engineering and Delivery Teams to deliver seamless infrastructure support for all Visa business lines. Additionally, you will work on the Security Remediation process (vulnerability assessment and patch management), contribute to standardize and document operational procedures, and ensure adherence to established ITIL practices such as Incident, Change, Problem and Release Management. The position requires being scheduled On-Call to support the infrastructure and our systems, and reports to the Ashburn, VA office with potential for partial telecommuting.

Responsibilities

  • Support critical applications and ensure the stability of services by performing dedicated maintenance activities.

  • Responsible for Docker/Kubernetes deployment, configuration, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
  • Harden and secure the Kubernetes cluster with monitoring and auditing dashboards.
  • Explain technical concepts and provide guidance to staff.
  • Convert manual and maintenance functions into fully orchestrated automation.
  • Operate in complex, highly secure, and highly available operations environments.
  • Coach other members of the support team, sharing technical and customer knowledge.
  • Partner with the Platform, Engineering and Delivery Teams to deliver seamless infrastructure support.
  • Work on the Security Remediation process (vulnerability assessment and patch management).
  • Contribute to standardize and document operational procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to established ITIL practices such as Incident, Change, Problem and Release Management.
  • Be scheduled On-Call to support the infrastructure and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in systems engineering or systems administration.
  • Experience in Linux systems administration.
  • Scripting experience in Shell, Python, Ansible, Terraform or YAML.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Familiarity with tools surrounding the Kubernetes ecosystem, such as helm, kubeadm, CSI, CNI, Sysdig, Prometheus, Grafana, or FluentD.
  • Experience with CI/CD or GitOps pipeline architecture with ArgoCD, Code Fresh, or Jenkins.
  • Experience securing Kubernetes clusters with monitoring and auditing dashboards.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies, such as HP or DELL hardware (Rack servers).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentbit, Netcool, or Humio.
  • Understanding of networking protocols, including HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP.
