About the position

The Senior Reinsurance Accountant role at UFG offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic Reinsurance Accounting team, focusing on financial operations, data quality, and internal controls. This position involves active participation in various accounting activities, including treaty economic analysis and modernization efforts, while fostering collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the review, communication, and settlement of treaty reporting and resolve related inquiries.
  • Book monthly journal entries to record reinsurance activity in the general ledger.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders such as auditors, regulators, and other departments to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee and prepare quarterly and annual Schedule F filings.
  • Monitor letters of credit and trust accounts to assure appropriate collateral is in place.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for increased efficiency in reinsurance reporting.
  • Support audits by providing necessary documentation, data, and information to internal and external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Work with business leaders and others within the Finance department to ensure that the general ledger accurately reflects reinsurance transactions for internal and external reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3+ years of experience in P&C Reinsurance Accounting.
  • General knowledge of accounting/financial/operational principles.
  • Knowledge of both statutory and GAAP accounting principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of various forms of P&C reinsurance, contracts, and complex calculations.
  • Inquisitive nature and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Superior attention to detail with a strategic mindset.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and assignments and deadline driven.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Word.
