About the position

The Estimator position involves reviewing and analyzing historical data from various sources to develop accurate unit and man hour figures for construction projects. The role requires a thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, and risk assessment to prepare comprehensive bid packages and provide estimating input on complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into unit and man hour figures.
  • Analyze project plans, requirements, proposal specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimates.
  • Assess project risks by analyzing all bid documents.
  • Review accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
  • Determine labor and equipment costs for projects.
  • Understand project logistics and schedules.
  • Prepare bid packages for submission.
  • Compare and evaluate competitive subcontractor and supplier bids.
  • Provide complete conceptual and final estimating input on complex projects.
  • Assist with technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  • Maintain all working documents and data to back up estimate figures.
  • Track awarded contracts and estimate pricing for extra work items and change orders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in construction estimating for private and public work sectors.
  • Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts and coordinate group work efforts.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Design Build projects desired, but not required.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify risk factors and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; aptitude for multi-tasking.
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HCSS HeavyBid software, and Primavera P6 required; knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus.
