About the position

As a Sr. Director of Product embedded in one of our Software divisions, you belong to the functional team whose work encompasses product strategy, product delivery, product management & product operations. You and your colleagues in Product Management specifically are charged with targeting R&D investments towards maximum value for customers and business ROI, being accountable for decision-making, problem selection, and business outcomes, and guiding product lifecycle from ideation to development to go-to-market to scaled product-market-fit. This role requires skillsets, experience, and competencies in execution & delivery, research & strategy, and organization & people development. This role creates impact at the level of a portfolio (product line), drives work for 5-15 people (including other people managers), and sets goals in terms of outcomes and KPIs at the portfolio level.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-team Collaboration: Manages known opportunities, including conformance with business models and strategic partnerships.
  • Judgement & Decision Making: Operates smartly within constraints & architecture (e.g., data model, tech stack), better-than-expected impact.
  • Responsibility for Outcomes: Uses instincts, novel data, and industry sense to enforce a high quality, wholistic product experience.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Unblocks unforeseen obstacles to guarantee successful (biannual) releases, with responsibility to prevent collision risk from multiple teams working in parallel.
  • Data & Market Analysis: Places 'bets' on new products, with direct influence over ROI and Profit/Loss.
  • Thought Leadership: Enables sales via complete packaging & pricing guidance, with duties that extend to product launch plans.
  • People Management: For their direct reports, mentors them to reach higher levels of performance and increases self- and other- awareness, with ability to negotiate compensation expectations.
  • Organizational Leadership: For the Product organization itself, solves root causes to unlock team growth and applies these as best practices to other teams.
  • Vision: Creates vision, and pivots as needed.

Requirements

  • Fastidious for facts, insistent on evidence- and data-driven choices, able to separate signal from noise.
  • Systems-thinking and ability to predict or extrapolate to second, third, and fourth order effects.
  • Adept at analytics, independent research, unscripted interviews, and other intel-gathering techniques.
  • Not afraid to speak up and veto a bad idea, or have your ideas vetoed in favor of what our team decided to prioritize next.
  • Curious about our clients and products, cautious with our brand and industry goodwill, conscientious in follow-through.
  • Willing to learn and serve, flexible in adapting to rapid organizational change, receptive of constructive criticism.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity, low tolerance for mess; able to create order out of chaos, attend to details, and push quality higher.
  • Relentlessly resourceful and discerning in solving problems independently vs. seeking help from others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intimate familiarity with a specific scientific domain, such as biosimulation, PK/PD modelling, clinical trial data standardization and analysis.
  • Ability to work in a remote position requiring constant spoken and written communication; skill in exerting influence without leverage or managerial authority.
  • Education or qualifications relating to business, programming, data science, health sciences, medical writing, customer support, project management, or corporate communications.
  • Experience working for a software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendor, clinical laboratory, pharmaceutical company, or Contract Research Organization (CRO).
