About the position

The Senior Director of Data Lake Engineering at WEX is responsible for the vision and strategy of the Data Lake platform, which supports both GenAI and traditional AI/ML technologies. This role involves overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML model production, ensuring the technical soundness and security of the Data Lake infrastructure, and collaborating with various teams across the organization to meet business needs. The position requires a balance of immediate and long-term strategic planning, with a focus on building a high-performing engineering team and driving innovation in data management and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and drive the development of technology and platform for the company's Data Lake needs, ensuring functional richness, reliability, performance, and flexibility.
• Own the technology and architecture of the Data Lake platform and services.
• Challenge the status quo to drive better technical solutions for the risk area of Wex.
• Guide the team to leverage data and AI technology in design and development for high productivity and quality.
• Partner with leaders across the organization to understand business needs and develop technical solutions.
• Grow and build a strong global Data Lake engineering team, focusing on talent attraction and hiring.
• Establish data governance policies, quality metrics, and access protocols to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Collaborate with information security teams to ensure data security and privacy.
• Partner with solutions architecture and LOB product teams for integration of the Data Lake Platform.
• Engage with external partners to evaluate technologies that complement the Data Lake strategy.
• Create, prioritize, manage, and execute roadmaps and project plans.
• Report on development status, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
• Drive the technical vision and strategy of Data Lake to meet business needs.
• Set measurable quality goals for the team in a data-driven manner.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software design and development experience at a large scale.
• 5+ years of people management experience with high-performing teams.
• Deep technical expertise in architecture design, development, deployment, and production operation.
• Experience in full software development life cycle including production monitoring.
• Rich experience in Big Data and large scale data platforms, especially Data Lake.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD automation and agile development practices.
• Broad understanding of cloud architecture tools and services, particularly AWS and Azure.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and partnership skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in payment organizations is a plus.
• A higher degree in a related field is a plus.
