About the position

Our IT Infrastructure & DevOps team works on various platforms including AWS infrastructure, VMware Virtual Machines, Bare Metal Servers, and Google Cloud Platform. As a Senior DevOps Engineer your responsibilities will include building scalable infrastructure on which we deliver our software as well as managing development tools that are used on a daily basis by our team and others throughout the business. In this role you will be working in a dedicated group of hard-working and skilled engineers within the IT Infrastructure & DevOps team focused on developing infrastructure and corresponding tools and software.

Responsibilities

  • This role will begin as hybrid on-site in our San Carlos, CA office. After a 6-8 week training period it will be eligible to be fully remote but must live within on-call distance of the office.
  • Work tightly with groups within and external to IT for best overall systems design and operations.
  • Work closely with customers in all phases of SDLC to investigate areas of improvement and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Guide and encourage the team and our customers to follow DevOps practices.
  • Participate in operations efforts and be a point person for infrastructure activities.
  • Build and deploy cloud-based infrastructure to support the business.
  • Build or extend tools for monitoring applications and underlying infrastructure, and ensure critical applications are monitored in the right ways.
  • Develop automation and CI/CD processes to enable teams to build, test, deploy, manage, configure, secure, scale and monitor their applications using the latest technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and others.
  • Participate in architectural decisions to help improve the quality of our infrastructure and applications.
  • Configure and manage development tools such as Atlassian Bitbucket, Jenkins, and others.
  • Be ready to respond to a team or business critical incident in a timely manner. (Share an on-call rotation)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, business or technical field, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years of related relevant experience
  • 5 years proven success in Information Technology (IT) preferred
  • 4 years proven success in DevOps and Environment Deployment Automation leadership preferred
  • 3 years proven success in project/program management preferred
  • 5 years' experience working in a technology based global enterprise, bio/pharma tech preferred

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Atlassian applications
  • Experience programming in Python or other OOP languages
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with GCP
