About the position

Gundersen has an opportunity available for a new graduate with a Master's degree in Communicative Disorders. Complete your Clinical Fellowship Year with Gundersen Health System! We are seeking a Speech Pathologist with interest in working with adults in an inpatient hospital setting. Primary responsibilities would include providing evaluation and treatment services to patients on our acute care units and recently renovated CARF Certified 20-bed adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Skill in serving patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other neurogenic diseases/disorders is required. Competency with tests/protocols for language impairment, motor speech disorders, cognitive impairment, right hemisphere dysfunction, basic voice disorders, and dysphagia is indicated. Proficiency with video fluoroscopy preferred. The selected candidate will be required to provide weekend coverage, working every other Saturday and designated holidays. This open position is currently limited to a term of 13 months. Ongoing employment after completion of the Clinical Fellowship is a consideration if program growth/patient needs support such but is not guaranteed. This position supports the opportunity to work in a highly collegial environment with multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Works with patients and families to examine, evaluate, diagnose, prognose, and intervene to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Consults and educates the patient and other caregivers as needed.
  • Works with the referring provider and other clinical staff in providing optimal care of the patient through appropriate timely methods of communication.
  • Completes documentation according to established departmental standards to enhance effective patient care and proper reimbursement.
  • Meets standards of practice according to federal, state, and professional association guidelines.
  • Teaches and counsels individuals, families, groups, and community.
  • Participates in departmental and multidisciplinary review of process, treatment, or systems issues for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Pursues relevant educational opportunities to maintain or enhance professional knowledge.
  • Works under the supervision of the designated mentor in accordance with ASHA standards.
  • Ensures patient safety.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Requirements

  • Speech-Language Pathologist Wisconsin Temporary License (SPEECH PTH)
