About the position

The SPED Para Professional - Tier 2 position at St. Joseph School District is designed to support students with significant cognitive delays, limited communication skills, and learning disabilities. The role involves assisting teachers in providing a high-quality education tailored to the needs of these students, ensuring they have access to appropriate educational resources and support. The position requires collaboration with teachers and parents to monitor student progress and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
  • Assist teacher with clerical duties and classroom routines.
  • Administer classroom assignments to support the instructional process.
  • Communicate with teachers and parents to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Monitor individuals and groups of students in various settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Report observations and incidents to appropriate personnel regarding specific students.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts under the direction of the teacher.
  • Collect data for IEP goals.
  • Assist students with mobility needs, which may involve lifting and toileting.
  • Demonstrate understanding of student needs, including the use of wheelchairs and assistive technology devices.
  • Provide assistance during crisis situations for students and teachers.
  • Cover a class when a substitute teacher is unavailable.

Requirements

  • Must obtain or possess a current Substitute Certificate or a Teacher Certificate prior to start date.
  • Required to pursue and obtain MANDT Certification at the first available opportunity.
  • Must have an Associates Degree or higher, 60 college credit hours, or completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
