About The Position

Perform various routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate fashion to assist the laboratory professional staff and to facilitate production. This role involves tracking, sorting, and receiving specimens, performing laboratory tasks such as accessioning samples, record keeping, scanning documentation, specimen storage, and retrieval. The position also requires using inventory software, preparing specimens for testing, decontaminating work areas, and operating laboratory computer systems and PCs. The individual must be able to handle human specimens like oral and urine samples and will undertake special projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of how Specimen Processing impacts the testing laboratory.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with deadlines, time constraints, and able to communicate effectively.
  • Strong team player, works well with staff and peers.
  • Ability to reason through situations and make sound decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Tracking, Sorting, and Receiving specimens in the department.
  • Follows CLIA, HIPPA, OSHA and safety guidelines.
  • Performs laboratory tasks of accessioning samples, record keeping for specimen and specimen exceptions, scanning documentation, specimen storage, and specimen retrieval.
  • Use of inventory software for supply counts, receiving, stocking, and organizing inventory.
  • Preparing specimens at workstations for testing.
  • Decontaminates work areas while keeping and maintaining all toxicology sections have been cleaned and organized.
  • Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.
  • Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations.
  • Able to handle, for processing, human specimens such as oral and urine samples.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
