About the position

The Specialty Interpreter at Lexington Medical Center is a vital role that facilitates communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and the healthcare staff. This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other languages of limited diffusion, ensuring that patients and their families can understand medical procedures, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. The interpreter must navigate cultural and linguistic barriers while adhering to professional standards and ethical guidelines. In addition to interpretation, the role includes monitoring and improving language skills, participating in continuing education, and responding to requests through the ServiceHub. The interpreter must be culturally sensitive and capable of handling high-pressure situations, ensuring effective communication even in emotionally charged environments. This position may require travel to other Lexington Medical Center facilities as needed.
