About the position

The Specialized Programs Assistant I and II positions are designed to assist in implementing educational and social/behavioral development interventions for students who present significant behavioral/emotional challenges. The role involves supporting program activities within the intervention classroom, which may include assisting with academic instruction, social skills groups, recreational activities, and monitoring student progress. Both positions require a commitment to working collaboratively with educational intervention teams and maintaining effective working relationships with other team members. The primary goal is to contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral management systems for students in need.

Responsibilities

  • Supports all program activities within the intervention classroom, including academic instruction and social skills groups.
  • Implements necessary accommodations and modifications on student individualized education plans, including positive behavior support plans.
  • Collects, collates, and charts behavioral and academic data for enrolled students.
  • Completes written reports on enrolled students as requested.
  • Assists in contacts with community agencies, parents, and teachers as requested.
  • Intervenes with behavioral and discipline concerns within the context of program policies.
  • Schedules and provides individual and group services to enrolled students as prescribed by Individual Education Plans.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (for Assistant I) or Bachelor's degree (for Assistant II) in educational psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • History of direct service experience with students presenting social/emotional/behavioral challenges.
  • Ability to contribute to individual education plan development, monitoring, and revision.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and decision making.
  • Ability to assist with student activities including educational, behavioral intervention, and social skills development components.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to implement prescribed program behavioral management systems.
  • Ability to work as a member of an educational intervention team and maintain effective working relationships with other team members.
  • Ability to maintain clerical records and filing systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to contribute to program activity planning (for Assistant II).
