About the position

The Specialist, Software Engineer - New Concepts and Rapid Innovation role focuses on enhancing the technical capabilities of Commercial Aviation Solutions through rapid ideation, prototyping, and flight testing. The position requires interaction with business development and engineering functions, emphasizing software engineering while being a technology generalist across various fields. The engineer will work on multidisciplinary project teams to design, prototype, and test avionics systems, ensuring effective communication and customer engagement throughout the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a technology generalist with design freedom to identify effective solutions, focusing on software.
  • Complement electrical design work with software tasks to create functional design capabilities.
  • Design and develop embedded software for avionics systems using Python or C++.
  • Utilize and improve internal processes and tools for software development.
  • Support circuit level and aircraft system architectures effectively.
  • Learn and apply new techniques and skills on every project, including outside one's main engineering discipline.
  • Develop effective responses to customer needs, providing proof of concept solutions.
  • Interpret customer needs to drive design through systems engineering processes.
  • Devise plans to mature technologies through the TRL process to reduce technical risk.
  • Communicate across multiple technical teams in a fast-paced, prototype development environment.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their problems and formulate actionable solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or science, preferably in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in an engineering discipline with systems engineering principles.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct software development experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in customer-facing roles.
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing avionics products, RF, or sensor systems.
  • Knowledge of at least two software languages, with Python and C++ being most desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with and understanding of aerospace systems, especially in integrated hardware/software product development.
  • Device Driver and SoC development experience.
  • Experience with prototyping tools such as User Interface development and 3D printing.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering.
  • Pilot License or Part 107 certificate, with experience creating flight test scenarios.
