Full-time - Entry Level

About the position

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing instruction in a Special Education classroom. This role involves developing Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) for students, managing classroom environments, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure effective educational practices for students with special needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an appropriate Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for each student.
  • Select instructional outcomes and design coherent instruction for high-level learning.
  • Plan and incorporate related services into instructional programs.
  • Design and conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
  • Plan for the use of technology and other supplemental materials in daily lessons.
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport, establishing a culture for learning.
  • Set high expectations for learning for all students.
  • Manage effective classroom procedures and routines to minimize loss of instructional time.
  • Organize physical space to ensure safety and equal access to learning activities.
  • Demonstrate effective management of student behavior that is preventative and respectful.
  • Coordinate the daily work of paraprofessional staff to ensure consistency in the classroom.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and scaffolded explanations of lesson content.
  • Engage students in learning and adjust lessons as necessary.
  • Maintain student records, including IEPs, adhering to required timelines.
  • Communicate regularly with families about the instructional program and student progress.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to integrate students into building-level activities.
  • Participate in district and CLIU #21 activities.
  • Seek out and participate in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • PDE certification in Special Education.
  • Proficient understanding and utilization of Microsoft Office Suite and other software packages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience and understanding.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to implement and comply with PA Individual Education Program process.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in special education settings.
  • Knowledge of state standards related to special needs students.
  • Experience with technology in educational settings.
