About the position

The Sequim School District welcomes your application for Middle School Special Education Resource Teacher. This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE) for 180 days per year, plus 4 professional development days. The salary shown is reflective of the 2024-2025 school year, with negotiations currently underway for the 2025-2026 school year. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the teacher will provide specialized academic instruction to students individually and in small groups in accordance with Sequim School District policies and procedures. Responsibilities include developing and implementing IEP goals, assessing students, and coordinating programs to increase independence and functioning in society, socially, vocationally, and academically.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement curriculum and lesson plans for individualized and group instruction.
  • Schedule instructional periods and assess student progress.
  • Teach subjects including math, reading, language arts, wellness, and others utilizing specialized software and adaptive equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain related records.
  • Instruct students with special education needs regarding individualized tasks to implement and achieve IEP goals.
  • Participate as a member of IEP teams and attend IEP meetings.
  • Conduct pre- and post-assessments and perform other data collection.
  • Prepare IEP reports and maintain inter-agency and district contacts regarding IEPs.
  • Perform specialized physical health care procedures as trained and assigned.
  • Assure the proper implementation of objectives for each student by trained individuals in accordance with IEPs.
  • Cooperatively set performance objectives appropriate to the interest and maturity levels of students.
  • Provide for personal hygiene of students, including toileting, diapering, feeding, and caregiving.
  • Design and implement appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Evaluate student's academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve problems.
  • Provide job coaching, vocational training, and other skills.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, study skills, and other elements of the course of study.
  • Plan and supervise field trips to the community for shopping or self-help teaching purposes.
  • Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned Paraeducators, volunteers, substitutes, etc.
  • Collaborate with other Teachers, Psychologists, Specialists regarding student progress.
  • Communicate with parents through a variety of means and conduct initial interviews and conferences.
  • Prepare a variety of reports for parents, police, community agencies, administration, and others.
  • Participate in staff meetings, curriculum, and other developmental programs.
  • Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certification with Special Education endorsement.
  • Demonstrated communication skills: written and oral.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years' teaching experience in the grade level range for which you are applying.
  • Able to understand and align Sequim School Districts' frameworks with the common core state standards.
  • Familiar with Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching.
