About the position

The Special Education Teacher at KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School is responsible for leading their student caseload and driving student outcomes through effective instruction and support. This role involves planning and delivering lessons that align with KIPP's academic program, ensuring that students with special needs receive appropriate accommodations and modifications as outlined in their IEPs and other support plans. The teacher will also cultivate a culturally responsive classroom environment and actively participate in school-wide duties to support the community. This full-time position reports directly to a member of the school leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Drive student outcomes and create an exceptional student experience.
  • Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned with KIPP's academic program.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications for students' IEPs, BIPs, and 504 Plans.
  • Cultivate a culturally responsive classroom community.
  • Participate in daily duties such as arrival, dismissal, and lunch duty.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate special education programs and student supports.
  • Maintain accurate records for IEPs, 504s, and evaluations.
  • Liaise with parents and provide case management for special education students.
  • Design and deliver rigorous, standards-based lesson plans and assessments.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based on trust and respect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Special Education License or TEE through CDE (required)
  • Ability to fulfill all state and federal guidelines to meet ESSA criteria (required)
  • Commitment to an Exceptional Student Experience (required)
  • Ability to work during after-school, evening, and weekend meetings (required)
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience (highly preferred)
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, feedback, and facilitation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish bilingual (preferred)
  • Experience working with youth from various cultural and economic backgrounds.
