About The Position

This position aims to inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to the community, and engage in a lifetime of learning. The role involves supporting students and assisting the special education teacher in the operation and function of the classroom, working with individual or small groups of students as assigned. The paraprofessional will help implement instructional plans, manage student behavior, collect observational data, prepare and maintain educational materials, assist in meetings, and complete relevant forms and reports. Participation in district training is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be considered Highly Qualified (HQ) by the start date per the Minnesota Department of Education.
  • Meet Highly Qualified requirement by having: Two years of study at an institution of higher education (minimum 60 semester credits or equivalent) OR An Associate's (or higher) degree OR Received a passing score on the ParaPro, ParaEducator, or ParaPathways Assessment.
  • Possess the skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff, and parents.
  • Must have physical capability to lift and attend to physical needs of students as required.
  • Complete a background check upon conditional offer; a passing background is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of students' special education instructional plans, including physical and behavioral management.
  • Assist in the implementation and follow-through of students' individual plans in all assigned settings.
  • Collect observational data about assigned student(s) in various school settings and report to the supervising teacher.
  • Assist in the preparation, collection, and maintenance of educational materials and equipment.
  • Assist with staffings, conferences, and other special meetings as requested by the supervising teacher.
  • Complete educational forms, reports, and other student-related data as directed by the special education teacher.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the team and approved by the Special Education Coordinator/Special Education Supervisor.
  • Participate in district training programs prior to and during employment.
