About the position
The Special Education Paraprofessional is responsible for providing a well-organized and smoothly functioning classroom environment that allows students to fully benefit from the instructional program and available resources. This role involves assisting the teacher in implementing lesson plans, preparing classroom materials, and addressing the individual needs of students, particularly those with disabilities. The paraprofessional will also assist students with daily life activities and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or teacher.
Responsibilities
- Complies with assignment and extracurricular duties outlined by the teacher/principal.
- Complies with all School Board Policies and state laws relative to special education or general education classroom operations.
- Assists the teacher in implementing daily and long-range lesson plans, Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) services, and other instructional related assignments.
- Assists the teacher in preparation of classroom materials and acquires resources within the school as needed for students.
- Assists the teacher in providing for the individual needs, abilities, and interests of the students, including life skills and self-help skills.
- Assists students with daily life activities as needed.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
Requirements
- Must be a high school graduate.
- Demonstrated aptitude for working with children/students with disabilities.
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
