About The Position

Responsible for facilitating ARD meetings, assisting in the development of the students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and completion of required ARD paperwork. Communicates with campus staff and parents before and after ARD Committee meetings in ARD preparation/follow-up activities. May serve more than one campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teacher’s certification in special education
  • Experience in implementing the ARD/IEP process
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all ARDC members, including parents
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with teachers and administrators
  • Ability to utilize electronic data management system
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic computer operations
  • Communicate with colleagues on a regular basis
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for educating students with disabilities
  • Ability to attend to detail
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching in a special education classroom
  • Experience with computer-based special education documentation system

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates ARD meetings, including scheduling and notifying committee members.
  • Utilizes the district-provided ARD agenda to ensure all required items are covered.
  • Prepares and maintains the ARD meeting calendar for assigned campus(es) and shares it with relevant staff.
  • Ensures federal/state timelines are met for ARD Committee meetings and assessment requests.
  • Monitors ARD paperwork completed by campus personnel and completes applicable ARD supplements with accompanying data.
  • Completes lists, forms, reports, PEIMS forms, and data required by the Special Education Office by due dates.
  • Provides systematic communication among special and general education personnel regarding ARD meetings and decisions.
  • Follows beginning and end of the year procedures for ARD calendar, folder requests, audit folder reviews, folder exchanges, and assists with preparing IEPs, accommodations, and BIP distribution.
  • Assists campus administrator(s) to ensure compliance with mandates for due process for students with disabilities.
  • Secures district interpreter from translation services when needed.
  • Ensures that case managers progress monitor student’s goals and objectives and assists with the distribution of progress reports.
  • Provides monthly Special Education Department staff meetings at the campus level regarding relevant professional development.
  • Serves as a liaison between parents, school, and the special education department.
  • Maintains neutrality in facilitating ARD meetings while maintaining compliance with district-approved procedures.
  • Follows all beginning of the year and year-end procedures related to job assignment.
  • Incorporates conflict management techniques when disagreements arise.
  • Supports District and department goals.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Attends professional training to develop and enhance job-related skills.
  • Keeps informed of and complies with policies established by federal and state law, special program requirements, Texas Education Agency, State Board of Education rule, and the local NBISD board policy.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized data, reports, records, and other documents as required.
