About the position

The Special Education 1:1 Paraeducator Bus Duty position at Silver Star Elementary involves providing support to special education students during transportation. The role includes assisting the bus driver with loading and unloading students, ensuring their safety, and maintaining a positive environment on the bus. The position is temporary and requires working specific hours during the school year, including early release days and designated full Wednesdays. The paraeducator will also be responsible for completing necessary paperwork and implementing behavioral management plans as outlined in students' IEPs.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Assist the bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair-bound students on and off the bus.
  • Establish and maintain a positive climate for students during transport.
  • Act quickly and be aware of surroundings to ensure student safety.
  • Complete daily individual student behavior management forms.
  • Implement and monitor student behavioral management plans in accordance with IEPs.
  • Attend conferences with administrators, parents, and students when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise students.
  • Previous experience working with behaviorally disabled students preferred.
  • Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, cooperativeness, and confidentiality.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in detailing information necessary to complete paperwork.
  • Must possess physical strength and ability to assist bus driver with wheelchair-bound students.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
