The primary purpose of the special collection and archives in the library is to curate unique collections that are original, unique, and historical documents. The scope of the collection is related to the university, the local community, the region, government, and special collections. This position directly aligns to the university's strategic plan goal of embracing and celebrating the unique identity of UNCP. The special collections and archives librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the reading room. They will coordinate workflow of acquiring, processing, and research of the special collections materials. They will participate in the strategic and goal setting related to their area. They will promote the use of primary materials in the community and in classroom. They will make recommendations of budgetary needs for their area. They will participate in other duties as directed by the assistant dean and dean of the library. Within Special Collections, the librarian will curate the resources of regional and cultural significance and is aligned with the university mission. The librarian will ensure that best practices of digital and physical archival preservation. The position will also have oversight of various collections and digital repositories. Within university archives, the librarian, working with the assistant dean and designated university administration, will ensure the overall university archives are properly maintained and are accessible. The librarian will work as the university's liaison to the state library office for archives.
