About the position

The East Sac County Community School District is seeking a qualified High School Spanish Teacher for grades 9-12 for the 2nd Semester of the 2024-25 school year. The teacher will be responsible for instructing Spanish 1 through Spanish 4, developing students' language skills, and fostering an appreciation for the cultures associated with the Spanish language. The position is full-time and offers support from school administration and a mentoring program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer foreign language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Teach knowledge and skills in a language other than English, including comprehension, grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage.
  • Develop student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of countries where the language is the predominant or a major means of communication.
  • Work with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • State Certification as a foreign language teacher in the particular language taught.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Successful prior foreign language teaching experience is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a related area preferred.
