About the position

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Sorting Room Worker/Store Clerk to join our team in Corsicana, TX. This position plays a vital role in assisting store customers with their donations, selections, and purchases of store items. The Store Clerk will operate and maintain a cash register, respond to customer inquiries, and help maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the store. Additionally, you will assist customers by explaining store policies and answering questions regarding pricing and purchasing. Maintaining the neatness and security of the cash register area is crucial, as is ensuring that the warehouse area is kept orderly and clean. The role also involves answering the store telephone in a courteous manner, assisting customers with inquiries, and potentially scheduling donation pick-ups. Responsibilities

  • Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register.
  • Collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts.
  • Prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs.
  • Ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Explains store policy and responds to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items.
  • Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
  • Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
  • Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information.
  • May schedule and record donation pick-ups.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. (preferred)
  • One-year prior customer service or retail experience preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver's License (preferred)
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
