About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the country! We primarily service Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, with a landfill located in Ohio, where we also own and operate a state-of-the-art rail-served landfill. Requirements

• Meet physical standards as specified.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Possess a team-player attitude as job is spent in close quarters with other staff members that all rely on one another.
• Spend shift standing on feet alongside conveyor belts.
• Be exposed to odors, hot or cold weather, as well as physically touching items in the recycling stream.

Nice To Haves

• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sort and pick through refuse at our MRF / Optical Sorting Facility (Materials Recovery Facility).
• Eliminate wrongly recycled products from the environment’s waste and recycling stream.
• Identify appropriate products throughout the optical sorting machinery.
• Stand for four hours at a time (based on shift and break rotations).
• Work in hot and cold weather (work area is not heated or cooled—it reflects the outdoor temperature at the time).
• Sort through recyclables on a moving conveyor belt.
• Perform sweeping at cleanup time.
• Perform light shoveling.
• Perform occasional lifting (less than 50lbs).
• Use hand tools like pliers for the cleaning of baled product.
