About the position

The position involves performing and monitoring Ultrasound procedures as per written protocols requested by physician's orders, with modifications as necessary based on Radiologist or RA preferences. The role requires adherence to established organizational and departmental policies, standard operating procedures, quality assessment, and safety protocols. The individual will assist Radiologists, RAs, and other healthcare providers, and must be capable of interacting with patients across all age groups, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The position also entails maintaining a safe working environment, being available for on-call and call-back responsibilities, and assisting lead technologists in cost containment and quality improvement recommendations. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as screening, positioning, instructing, and explaining procedures to patients, producing high-quality diagnostic images, charging exams in the ITS system, and performing other assigned duties in a team-oriented atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor Ultrasound procedures per written protocol as requested by physician's order.
  • Adhere to established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist Radiologists, RAs, and other providers as needed.
  • Interact with patients of all ages, ensuring comfort and understanding.
  • Maintain a safe working environment throughout the facility.
  • Be available for on-call and call-back responsibilities as required.
  • Assist lead technologists in recommendations for cost containment and quality improvement.
  • Order and maintain supplies from vendors and CSR.
  • Screen, position, instruct, and explain procedures to patients, including follow-up assessments.
  • Select proper factors, exposures, and sequences for equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Charge exams properly in the ITS system.
  • Assist with taken, logged, billed, and completed logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, fostering a team atmosphere.
  • Supervise and evaluate students as necessary.
  • Perform quality assurance testing and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Utilize sterile techniques as required.
  • Assist with sedations and invasive procedures as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Ultrasound equipment and pre-exam screening requirements within 3 months of hire date.
  • Computer literate with the ability to understand PACS, CR/DR, HIS/RIS systems.
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of cross-section anatomy.
  • Ability to critique images against measurable criteria established by Radiology Department SOPs.
  • Capable of independent judgment without direct supervision for technical details.
  • IV insertion competency if applicable.
  • Ability to administer IV/oral contrast as directed by Radiologist if applicable.
