About the position

The Honors Fellowship in the Solicitor General Unit of the Georgia Office of the Attorney General offers a unique opportunity for junior attorneys and graduating law students to engage in significant appellate litigation. The role involves managing cases, drafting legal briefs, and presenting oral arguments in high-stakes legal matters, particularly before the United States Supreme Court and other appellate courts. This fellowship is designed for those interested in constitutional litigation and public service, providing hands-on experience in a dynamic legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and file briefs in the United States Supreme Court, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit, and other courts.
  • Present oral argument in various appellate courts.
  • Prepare amicus briefs on behalf of multistate amicus coalitions.
  • Review draft appellate briefs prepared by other units of the Attorney General's office and participate in moots to prepare attorneys for oral argument.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda for the Attorney General, Solicitor General, and other senior staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Member of the Georgia Bar or bar pending
  • Demonstrated excellence in legal analysis, brief writing and oral communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Clerkship experience preferred but not required.
