Software Engineer, Vehicle Identification

Blissway Inc.Denver, CO
$135,000 - $170,000Hybrid

About The Position

The ID team’s job is to accurately extract data from the images our roadside equipment captures: license plate number, plate state, lane, axle count, and more. That data drives billing. Accuracy and speed are the competitive moat.

Requirements

  • MS or BS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Excited to work at a startup and be part of a core engineering team.
  • You don't wait for a manual or a step-by-step guide; you figure out what you need to get stuff done and you do it with a professional, "owner" mentality.
  • Understand that in a small team, feedback is the fastest way to level up and you welcome it.
  • Think in systems, not features. You understand that a change to one part of the system will impact users in other parts and you account for that.
  • Genuinely flexible. When the embedded team needs a hand, you help. When a project priority shifts, you shift.
  • Experience writing code that stands up to the unpredictability of the physical world.
  • Proficiency in Python and TypeScript, or ability to learn fast.
  • Experience with Computer Vision (OpenCV), ML Integration, Payment Processing.
  • Experience with languages such as Python, TypeScript, C++, SQL.
  • Experience with frameworks and tools such as NestJS, Node.js, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, React, Sentry.
  • Experience with infrastructure such as AWS, Docker, Linux, IoT Edge Devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Detail-oriented enough to care about the difference between a 99.95% and 99.97% accuracy rate and creative enough to want to close that gap through data driven testing.
  • Comfortable working across the stack to own debugging and updates.
  • You don't stop at the interface boundary, you drive forward to a solution.

Responsibilities

  • Own the core logic that decides what happens with each transaction, enabling us to identify cars on the road.
  • Collaborate with the ML team to request, test and implement models that increase identification reliability and speed.
  • Partner with the data analyst to understand where the strategy is failing and why.
  • Scale our capabilities from thousands to millions of cars daily. You will encounter older designs that didn’t scale. You will help us rearchitect them for growth.
  • Own debugging and updates for the Human Review Infrastructure, working across the stack and coordinating with frontend teams.
  • Figure out what you need to get stuff done and do it with a professional, "owner" mentality.
  • Think in systems, not features, and account for how changes in one part of the system will impact users in other parts.
  • Be genuinely flexible and help other teams when needed, shifting priorities as project needs change.
