Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), such as Computer Science, obtained prior to start
  • Proficiency in one or more general‑purpose programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with structured content formats (XML, JSON, HTML)
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Basic debugging, diagnostic, or system‑analysis skills
  • Experience with shell scripting on both Linux and Windows environments
  • Willingness to work with and improve legacy systems
  • Interest in graphics or CAD formats (SVG, DWG, CAD tools)
  • Familiarity with modern build and automation tools (such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Curiosity about software architecture and a desire to contribute ideas to help modernize our toolchain

Responsibilities

  • Work with design, development, and maintenance of key publications tooling, including XML/SGML transformation pipelines, production scripts, PDF utilities, and illustration tooling.
  • Support modernization efforts to maintain, migrate or retire legacy systems (Omnimark, SGML‑dependent workflows, version control and publications processes) and transition to more sustainable, automated solutions.
  • Assist with the building automation platforms, command‑line utilities, desktop applications and custom scripts used to generate and validate publication outputs.
  • Collaborate with writers, illustrators, and content managers to maintain tool reliability and continuously improve workflow efficiency.
  • Investigate issues within the publications tool ecosystem, propose solutions, and drive fixes to completion with minimal oversight.
