Fall Co-op 2026 - Software Engineer (8 months)
About The Position
As a Software Engineering Co-op at Manulife John Hancock, you will gain hands-on experience developing applications and systems that support business and customer solutions. You will work with modern development tools and frameworks to build scalable, high-quality software while contributing to the full software development lifecycle. This program offers multiple roles within the program, providing support from diverse, passionate, and talented technology teams. You will receive guidance from skilled technical leaders who value your teamwork and coordination abilities, and gain exposure to industry-leading, enterprise technologies. This is an 8-month co-op position, running from September 1st, 2026 – April 23rd 2027, located in our Waterloo, Ontario, CAN office. This is a hybrid position, where you are expected to be in the office Tuesday-Thursday, with the opportunity to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript)
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, Bitbucket)
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment
Nice To Haves
- Exposure to software frameworks, libraries, or development tools
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices
- Familiarity with APIs, web services, or application architecture
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a team of engineers focused on building scalable, reliable applications
- Support application development, testing, and debugging efforts
- Assist in feature development and system enhancements
- Collaborate with engineering and business teams to build user-focused solutions
- Participate in code reviews and maintain code quality standards
