About the position

The Software Development Manager III for Just Walk Out Tech at Amazon is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design and development of embedded software systems that enhance retail technology solutions. This role involves managing the full cycle of product development, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving innovation in embedded systems, machine learning, and computer vision technologies. The manager will also focus on operational excellence and mentoring team members to foster a culture of technical innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the organization and processes for building embedded software systems.
  • Recruit, manage, and lead a world-class team of software and system developer engineers.
  • Collaborate with hardware, reliability, manufacturing, and cloud infrastructure teams to execute software and firmware deliverables.
  • Make high-judgment decisions on feature prioritization and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Design and implement robust production-grade firmware solutions for embedded IoT devices.
  • Raise the bar on operational excellence for existing technical solutions.
  • Lead design reviews and process improvements to foster technical innovation.
  • Work closely with cloud infrastructure teams to define better interfaces for IoT solutions.
  • Develop software and cloud metrics for data-driven business decisions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams.
  • 3+ years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communicating with users and senior leadership to collect requirements and describe product features.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams.
