The Social Worker will play a critical role in the KIPP Indy Legacy team, working directly with our high school students to ensure they have the necessary support to succeed both inside and outside of school. An ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of and respectful towards the culture of the community served, support and advocate for students and families from a trauma-informed perspective, and collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders to help students and families access essential resources. The Social Worker will manage various aspects of the referral process for social services and community partners, including conducting regular assessments of student and family needs. This data will be used to create a vision for comprehensive student support in partnership with external stakeholders. The role will also involve assisting with student retention through strategic home visits, referring individuals and families to external resources, and supporting families in accessing these resources. Home visits for newly enrolled and current students will be conducted as appropriate, along with workshops to educate families, staff, and/or students on specific issues. Additionally, the Social Worker will administer records, documentation, and other compliance activities. Direct services to the school community will include providing regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling to students and families, meeting regularly with students who have mandated counseling in their IEPs, and ensuring a safe, positive environment in both group and one-on-one counseling sessions. The Social Worker will provide crisis intervention as needed, manage, track, and document student interactions and counseling schedules, and set goals with students while tracking their progress. Consistent communication with families and students who are displaced will be necessary to keep up with their situations and connect them with potential resources. Additional responsibilities include consulting with the school-based leadership team to develop comprehensive supports and interventions for students exhibiting challenging behavior, communicating with students, families, and colleagues, and responding to family concerns promptly and effectively. Participation in team meetings, school-wide activities, professional development, and other events is expected, along with providing recommendations to the staff and leadership team regarding approaches to working with struggling students.
