About the position

The SLCC Student Work Study-Lab Aide position in the Welding Tool Room offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industrial environment. This role involves supporting students in the welding program, managing tools and equipment, and fostering a safe and collaborative atmosphere in the welding lab. The position is designed for students who are looking to develop their technical skills while working alongside experienced instructors and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the check-out and assignment of welding tools and equipment to students and instructors, ensuring accurate tracking and tool availability.
  • Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of tools and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain optimal functioning in the lab.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding lab by ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report any shortages or equipment needs to the supervisor to ensure continuous availability of necessary tools.
  • Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff to provide exceptional customer service and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Inspect and ensure all tools are in proper working condition, ready for immediate use in welding tasks.
  • Contribute to a safe and efficient work environment by keeping the lab organized and adhering to safety protocols at all times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to move 50 pounds.
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (minimum).
  • Registered for 9.0 credits for Fall and Spring semesters or 6.0 credits for Summer semester.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently pursuing a Degree or Certificate in Welding.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of tools and their functions.
  • Ability to adapt well to a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
