About the position

The Site Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols on construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing support to the project management team. This role involves maintaining a visible presence on-site, conducting safety inspections, and facilitating communication between the safety director, project staff, and client representatives. The manager will also lead safety training and incident investigations, contributing to a culture of safety within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence in the field and performing independent site walks to identify safety issues.
  • Oversee multiple construction projects simultaneously and ensure compliance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Communicate with the Safety Director and Client Representatives regarding safety matters at job sites.
  • Utilize OSHA 1926 and other applicable regulations to ensure safety compliance.
  • Attend project meetings to address safety issues with staff and ensure all incidents are reported immediately.
  • Advise contractors and supervisors of non-compliance issues and prepare recommendations based on findings.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Host weekly safety talks with employees on the job site to promote safety awareness.
  • Coach and assist field staff to ensure safety expectations are understood and met.
  • Initiate follow-up on safety issues to ensure compliance and recommend programs to manage construction safety.
  • Orient new hires to the Cooper safety program and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Teach safety-related classes and perform accident investigations, including near-misses.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a related field.
  • 5 to 10 years' construction safety experience.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
  • OSHA 510 and/or 500 certification is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 hours certification required.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contract documents and safety rules.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
