About The Position

HITACHI RAIL is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated SIOP & Process Improvement Lead who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA. Hitachi Rail is looking for a SIOP Specialist to help take our Supply Chain business to the next level! The SIOP (Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning) Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and executing the end-to-end SIOP process to balance demand and supply, optimize inventory, and support business objectives. This role drives cross-functional alignment across sales, operations, supply chain, and finance to ensure accurate forecasting, reliable supply plans, and improved service performance. This position will also be responsible for the implementation of process improvement within Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of experience in Demand Planning, SIOP or IBP business structures. Preferably with experience in a High Mix/Low Volume environment
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities is a mush for success
  • Experience with PowerBI

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in SIOP/IBP environments
  • Knowledge of forecasting methodologies and inventory optimization
  • APICS/CPIM certification (or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Support and facilitate the monthly SIOP cycle, including demand review, supply review, and executive SIOP meetings
  • Consolidate and analyze demand forecasts, supply plans, and inventory positions
  • Identify gaps between demand and supply and escalate risks with mitigation plans
  • Ensure alignment between operational plans and financial targets
  • Collaborate with sales and commercial teams to validate and refine forecasts
  • Work with supply planning, production, and procurement to ensure feasible supply plans
  • Monitor capacity constraints, material availability, and supplier performance
  • Support scenario planning and “what if” analysis
  • Track and manage inventory levels to balance service, cost, and working capital
  • Identify excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory and support reduction strategies
  • Recommend safety stock and stocking policy adjustments based on demand variability and supply performance
  • Maintain and continuously improve part number–level lead time accuracy across planning and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Partner with Supply Chain/Procurement to validate and update lead times based on actual performance
  • Analyze planned vs. actual lead time variances and drive root cause corrective actions
  • Ensure accurate lead times are reflected in MRP to support reliable material planning and production schedules
  • Develop reporting and governance to monitor lead time accuracy and its impact on service levels, planning stability, and inventory
  • Develop and maintain KPIs and dashboards to monitor SIOP effectiveness
  • Track key metrics such as forecast accuracy, service levels, inventory turns, and plan adherence
  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to leadership
  • Act as a liaison between sales, supply chain, operations, procurement, and finance
  • Drive accountability and alignment across functions during the SIOP process
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across planning and execution processes
