About the position

Allied Instructional Services is seeking experienced and qualified educational interpreters for several school-based interpreting positions. The primary goal of these roles is to ensure the success of students who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing effective interpreting services in various educational settings. The positions are available on a full-time, part-time, or substitute basis, allowing for flexibility in work hours. Compensation is provided not only for direct service time but also for portal time, ensuring that interpreters are fairly compensated for their efforts. The ideal candidates will hold a minimum credential of an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher, RID/NIC certification, or state-level certification such as VQAS level 3. Interpreters must be willing to provide services across different educational levels and community settings as needed. Reliable transportation is essential for those who are not working remotely, as travel may be required. In this role, interpreters will be responsible for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with educational staff, parents, students, and community members. They will demonstrate professional judgment in all assignments and exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the RID Code of Ethics and Professional Code of Conduct. Maintaining a professional appearance and behavior conducive to a professional setting is crucial. Interpreters will also attend various meetings, including child study and IEP meetings, to provide input regarding an individual's communication abilities and skills. They will work collaboratively with the educational team to ensure access to communication and the curriculum throughout the school day, functioning as a positive member of the educational team. Additionally, maintaining records to document communications and travel for review by supervisors is a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting services to individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing in an effective and appropriate manner.
  • Establish and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with educational staff, parents, students, and community members.
  • Demonstrate professional judgment in all assignments and exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the RID Code of Ethics/Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate behavior conducive to a professional setting.
  • Attend meetings as requested, including child study, IEP meetings, and triennial reviews.
  • Participate in meetings to provide input regarding an individual's communication ability and skills.
  • Work with the educational team to ensure access to communication and the curriculum throughout the school day.
  • Function within the school environment as a positive member of the educational team.
  • Maintain records to document communications and travel for review by supervisors as requested.

Requirements

  • Must hold minimal credentials of an EIPA 3.5 or higher, or RID/NIC certification, or state level certification such as VQAS level 3.
  • Must be willing to provide interpreting services in a variety of educational settings and at all educational levels.
  • Must be willing to travel and possess reliable transportation if not working remotely.
