About the position

The Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a shelter, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing a safe and supportive environment for children. This role involves supervising staff, developing treatment plans, and maintaining a secure campus while serving as a positive role model for the service population. The Shelter Manager will also engage with various stakeholders, including law enforcement and medical professionals, to meet the needs of the children in care.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Supervise development of shift schedules and staff assignments.
  • Monitor zone supervisors to ensure daily progress and activities are documented accurately and comply with agency policies.
  • Assist with orientation of new children and staff.
  • Provide input into the development of treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge of positive child management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise activities for children according to the daily activity schedule.
  • Maintain a secure campus environment by making rounds and using proper radio communication protocols.
  • Be a positive role model for the service population.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed or requested by the position supervisor.
  • Implement Compass Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and staff in emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of service population and program operations.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree from an accredited program in social work, psychology, criminal justice, sociology, or related field; preferred graduate degree.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience; preferred two or more years of related experience.
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Behavior Intervention.
  • Ability to respond sensitively to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members and service providers.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention as needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure.
  • Computer literacy required to meet responsibilities of the position.
