About The Position

This course, JWB318H1F: The Art of Journalism: Literary Approaches to Reporting, explores literary journalism as a genre that combines storytelling with literary techniques to engage readers. The course will examine canonical works of journalism from the past 75 years, analyzing them as literary pieces, discussing their reporting methods, and considering the ethical implications. Students will have the option to develop their own literary reporting projects or write analytical essays on the studied works. The estimated enrollment is 25 students, with no TA support. The class is scheduled for Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and is currently planned for in-person delivery, though this may change. The appointment dates are from September 1st, 2026, to December 31st, 2026.

Requirements

  • MA in journalism or related field, or relevant professional experience
  • Industry experience as a working journalist or editor with an emphasis on literary journalism
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching

  • Publication record of journalism or creative writing
  • Demonstrated interest in pedagogy
  • Familiarity with the range of writing ability of undergraduates
