About the position
The Service Technician - Gas Specialist role at Michigan Gas Utilities involves ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the natural gas distribution system. This includes performing leak investigations, setting and turning on domestic meters, conducting leak repairs, and responding to customer service requests related to gas distribution. The position requires on-call availability on a rotating basis to address emergencies and customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform general customer service activities including turn ons and turn offs, removal and replacement of meters, and re-lighting appliances.
- Read meters and complete necessary paperwork related to gas distribution duties.
- Respond to and investigate gas leak and carbon monoxide calls, inspecting customer premises and equipment for safe operation.
- Locate gas distribution lines within specified timeframes and mark the specific location of underground gas lines.
Requirements
- 1+ years experience in plumbing and/or natural gas distribution.
- 1+ years computer experience.
- High school diploma, HSED, or GED.
- Must be willing to relocate if not within the set boundary (Sturgis service area).
- Must meet company standards for driving and maintain a valid driver's license.
