WSP is seeking an experienced Transit Planner with a strong interest in transit program delivery, planning, operational studies, and grant administration. This role will be embedded within our client's office in Charleston, SC, and requires an individual who is motivated and possesses a strong work ethic to make a positive impact on the region and local communities. Candidates should be confident in their ability to establish and achieve goals, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating adaptability and objectivity. The responsibilities of this position include professional transit planning and overseeing the collection and analysis of data for a regional bus transit system. Key tasks involve assisting with project management and coordination for planning projects, such as Corridor Studies to assess the feasibility of Bus Rapid Transit Service, as well as Transit Facility planning and design projects. The Transit Planner will also assist with transit service planning and scheduling for urban fixed-route, on-demand, and rural deviated transit services. Additionally, the role supports electronic service data activities, including the implementation of technology-based initiatives such as CAD/AVL software, APC reporting systems, trip planning applications, and real-time transit signage, while also being familiar with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The position requires providing administrative support and ensuring compliance with federal and state-funded grant programs. The Transit Planner will participate in planning alternative modes of transit in conjunction with the multi-modal aspects of the Region's Mobility Management Program. Responsibilities also include conducting short- and long-range planning, analyzing existing transit routes, preparing operational statistics, performing data collection, analyzing data, and delivering recommendations for improvements to ensure that services meet the goals and objectives of the Agency. The role involves reading and analyzing demographic and geographic data, applying spatial data analysis skills to graphically display ridership and demographic trends, and communicating these trends effectively. Monitoring and evaluating on-time performance data and proposing schedule adjustments as necessary are also key components of the job. The Transit Planner will assist with coordinating public outreach events, including setup, engaging with the public, and collaborating with internal staff to disseminate information. The position requires exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies, and maintaining a proven track record of workplace safety while abiding by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
