About the position
The Senior Traffic Engineer at BETA will be responsible for leading and managing traffic and transportation projects, focusing on innovative design and application of advanced traffic technologies. This role involves overseeing technical designs, preparing contract documents, mentoring junior staff, and engaging in business development and client management. The position emphasizes expertise in adaptive signal systems, P2P signal operation, and V2I solutions, contributing to impactful projects in the field of traffic engineering.
Responsibilities
- Perform, manage, and oversee design on traffic and transportation projects
- Perform detailed traffic analysis, traffic signal design, traffic modeling and simulation, intersection geometrics, complete streets, and temporary traffic controls
- Manage traffic related projects
- Act as technical design lead on concurrent projects
- Review and prepare traffic related contract documents
- Provide responsive client service through strong and expeditious communication
- Mentor junior staff to enhance their knowledge and advance their career development
- Attend and present at client and public meetings
- Perform business development and manage project pursuits
- Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- 10 years of related engineering experience in traffic
- Connecticut/Massachusetts Professional Engineer license required
- Working knowledge of CTDOT/MASSDOT requirements and standards
- Proficiency with traffic analysis and modeling
- Proficiency with traffic signal design
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Knowledgeable about traffic signal equipment and controller menu navigation
- Ability to perform on-site signal equipment/operational diagnostic services
Nice-to-haves
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred
- IMSA Traffic Inspection Certification desired
