About the position

The Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince George's County. The Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest Division within this Department and is composed of six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry, Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Aquatics, Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds, Aquatics and Sustainability) and the Administrative section. The mission of FSD is to provide professional, high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince George's County and its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and day-to-day leadership to a team of professional Electricians.
  • Provide logistical resources and project assignments.
  • Define the unit's goals/objectives.
  • Interact with senior management, external stakeholders, and other Trades professionals.
  • Participate in construction projects to conduct electrical assessments of wiring systems.
  • Provide electrical support to events.
  • Implement the County-wide emergency generator inspection and maintenance program.
  • Implement a hi-voltage system inspection and maintenance program.
  • Provide preventive maintenance of electrical systems within major venues.
  • Handle employee relations issues and administer human resources policy.
  • Train and instruct staff on new regulations and equipment issues.
  • Provide input to the budget based on cost projections and material/labor needs.
  • Submit weekly or occurrence related reports to the Asst. Division Chief.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  • Completion of approved apprentice program or four years of progressively responsible experience in a skilled trade.
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience including at least two (2) years' experience leading a crew or crews of trade workers.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 10 years.
  • Master license or certification in related trade as applicable.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
  • Pass Commission medical examination.
