About the position
The Senior Surgical Technologist (L&D) position at Houston Methodist is a full-time role focused on providing expert surgical support during obstetrical procedures. This position requires a high level of proficiency in surgical technology, including the preparation of the operating room and assisting the surgical team. The Senior Surgical Technologist will also mentor and guide less experienced surgical technologists, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards while promoting a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and nursing staff during obstetrical procedures.
- Assist the circulating RN with surgical counts and care of instruments post-procedure.
- Maintain sterile technique and prepare sterile dressings and devices.
- Participate in quality improvement practices and report near misses.
- Mentor and train new surgical technologists in the department.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military training equivalency.
- Two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
- CST - Certified Surgical Technologist certification or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in obstetrical and gynecologic procedures.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and hospital databases.
