About the position

The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for driving improvements in supplier quality through the application of Lean methodologies and Statistical Process Control. This role involves developing strong relationships with suppliers and the Supply Chain Team to manage and implement engineering and design changes, ensuring compliance and performance metrics are met. The engineer will lead investigations into major problems, assess supplier qualifications, and seek opportunities for process improvements, all while maintaining a focus on product quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies and Statistical Process Control.
  • Ensure supplier compliance and drive systematic problem solving and process improvement plans.
  • Develop positive relationships with suppliers and the Supply Chain Team.
  • Manage, implement, and track supplier/engineering design changes and New Product Introductions.
  • Deliver results measured by key metrics such as supplier OEE, OTD, DPPM, SCAR, and VA/VE improvements.
  • Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and special projects.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and report all activities related to supplier performance.
  • Assess supplier qualifications including training and certifications.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems through specialized testing and measurement.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes, part quality, and overall efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or Program Management.
  • 3 years of experience in developing suppliers.
  • 3 years of experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • 5 years of experience in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
  • 5 years of experience in Quality Management System.
  • 5 years of experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • 5 years of experience in Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
