About the position

Joining Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group as a Senior Structural Engineer presents a distinctive opportunity for professional growth in the exciting field of carbon-free nuclear energy and related technologies. This role involves supporting advanced technology projects, collaborating with industry professionals, and contributing to the advancement of safe and reliable nuclear power generation. The position offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering, with access to extensive training programs and mentorship opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Support advanced technology projects in nuclear energy.
  • Collaborate with a team of structural engineers and interface with engineers from other disciplines.
  • Guide the work of less experienced project team members.
  • Design new nuclear facilities including Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Reactors, and Medical Isotope Facilities.
  • Upgrade US and International operating nuclear plants.
  • Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
  • Prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications and reports, and support designers with drawing development.
  • Mentor others in the development of engineering deliverables.
  • Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations using state-of-the-art computer tools.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Five or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of structures.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
  • Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • MSCE degree
  • Experience with design and analysis of power plant and/or industrial structures.
  • On-site construction support experience.
  • PE or SE license.
