Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement or military experience
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and quick decision-making ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR/AED) certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Eligibility to carry a concealed firearm under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004, or ability to obtain eligibility through the State of Illinois (IDFPR) within 120 days of hire
  • Ability to maintain current firearms qualification under applicable laws
  • Must maintain a current Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card (Illinois residents only)

  • Separation from law enforcement or military within the past 5 years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff members, volunteers, visitors, students, equipment, supplies, and all assets necessary to support the comprehensive healthcare environment at City of Hope Chicago.
  • Responding to reported or observed acts of physical violence within the hospital and proactively address any active or potential threats on the premises.
  • Documenting incidents through detailed report writing (e.g., lost and found, alarms, disruptive behavior, vandalism, theft).
  • Conducting routine patrols.
  • Maintaining a visible security presence throughout the facility.
  • May be required to carry firearms in accordance with hospital policy and applicable state and federal statutes.
