About the position

The Senior Resource Geologist - Technical Lead at Northern Star Resources is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing geological tasks at the Pogo operation in Alaska. This position involves mentoring a team of Project Resource Geologists, managing Grade Control schedules, and ensuring the delivery of accurate geological models. The role emphasizes collaboration with various engineering teams to align geological work with operational needs, while also focusing on continuous improvement and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Resource Geologist in mentoring and supporting the team of Project Resource Geologists.
  • Manage and deliver Grade Control schedule to ensure alignment with operational requirements.
  • Deliver Grade Control and Resource models with full documentation following site procedures and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of geological models and understanding at the mine, local and regional scale.
  • Ensure Grade Control and Development models are reconciled back to Resource model estimates.
  • Improve and standardise estimation systems and processes for robust resource estimations.
  • Review EOM mining and mill reconciliations and their impacts on resource estimates.
  • Assist in the accurate and timely completion of Resource models, data tables, and reports for resource statements.
  • Review project areas to identify resource extension opportunities.
  • Monitor and review QAQC of all geological data, processes, and reports.
  • Monitor the management, quality, and performance of assay laboratories used by site.
  • Improve workflows and standardise key processes where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and statutory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years underground geology experience in the mining industry.
  • At least 5 years' experience in resource modelling.
  • High level of competency in the use of modelling, geostatistics, and estimation software.
  • Experienced in the use of Geological Software including Vulcan, Leapfrog, Datamine & Acquire.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Geology degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
