About The Position

The Chahroudi laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Specialist, Senior to join their team. The Chahroudi lab is dedicated to investigating viral pathogenesis, persistence, and treatment/cure strategies. The Chahroudi research program is specifically focused on understanding the consequences of HIV and Zika virus infections, using nonhuman primate models. The Research Specialist will perform technical laboratory activities related to the processing and storage of nonhuman primate samples as well as keep detailed study records. The position will involve performing various immunologic and virology assays under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow or graduate student. The Chahroudi laboratory is located in the Health Science Research Building II on the Emory Campus and consists of a dynamic team of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research specialists, who all work collaboratively with veterinarians, research resources, and other core facility staff at the Emory National Primate Research Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and four years of research experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Nice To Haves

  • A background in immunology and/or virology would be ideal, but is not required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and math skills are required as is the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Also valued is a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to ask for help when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Devises highly specialized research procedures by applying a knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment.
  • Provides input to protocol development.
  • Serves as a technical resource for other research personnel.
  • Analyzes and interprets the results of studies.
  • Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results.
  • Trains research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests.
  • Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures.
  • Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives.
  • May assist in grant and other funding application preparation.
  • Review literature for related research developments and techniques.
  • Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation.
  • Oversees quality assurance of research performed by others.
  • Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
