About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Public Information Specialist to join our team in Jacksonville, FL. In this role, you will support and help lead public outreach and communications initiatives for infrastructure and community-focused projects. Reporting to a Technical Manager, you will play a key role in delivering strategic public affairs programs, including media relations, community engagement, digital communications, and stakeholder coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Typically requires 5 or more years of relevant experience in public relations, communications, or public outreach, preferably in a consulting or infrastructure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with experience tailoring messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, media, and community members.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating public meetings or community engagement activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to travel locally for project needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with web content management and graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement public information and community outreach strategies for assigned projects.
  • Draft, edit, and manage a wide range of communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, reports, presentations, and public service announcements.
  • Plan and coordinate public outreach events such as public meetings, hearings, open houses, ribbon cuttings, and project tours, including logistics and on-site support.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate public meetings and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring effective communication and public participation.
  • Manage and maintain project websites, digital content, databases, and reporting tools; analyze and report on outreach effectiveness and engagement metrics.
  • Lead or support the design and production of outreach materials such as displays, brochures, maps, and multimedia content.
  • Monitor media coverage, track public sentiment, and prepare reports and recommendations for project teams and clients.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and the public.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and preparation of qualifications and presentations.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on communications best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
